Ms. Amanda is the mother of two children, one who's competed in the Jr. Olympics 3 times in track and field!
"I believe in teaching the whole child: a child's social/emotional growth is as important as a child's academic growth and in many cases, his/her academic growth is contingent upon his/her social emotional growth. School should feel like a second home. " - Ms. Amanda
Ms. Anne has worked at Bridges Academy for the last 13 years and is loving it. She works with Ms. Amanda in the classroom and runs the schools performance art program! She is a mother of 3 great kids. Her hobbies include karaoke, playing poker, and spending time with her kids when they are home from school. Fun fact about Ms. Anne? "I am obsessed with Dunkin Donuts coffee and giraffes!"
Ms. Amy has a degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in Linguistics. She has experience teaching third grade, first grade and preschool. Ms. Amy has a passion for teaching and strive to instill a love for learning in her students. "I believe it is important to build a positive environment in which the students feel comfortable to grow and develop academically and socially." - Ms. Amy
Ms. Sherry holds a Master's in Education with a minor in Business Administration. She also has personal experience with dyslexia and dysgraphia. She has a deep respect for all learning styles, the importance of appropriate interventions/accommodations, the need to maintain a child’s positive self-esteem and believes that academic grades do not define a child, a person is so much more than that!
"Effective learning requires collaboration between teachers, students and parents. I hope to create a positive environment where my students can enjoy their time as they think, learn and create." - Ms. Sherry
This year we welcome Ms. Cornel, our Latin teacher, to the 4th/5th grade classroom. Together with Ms. Erin and art teacher
Ms. Kristiana, they challenge students and expand their understanding of the world around them.
Ms. Cornel du Toit has been a teacher for nearly 15 years now. Her mother owned her own pre-school and growing up in a school setting made her realize that she really loved teaching. She is originally from South Africa where she taught from 1st up to 11th grade through the years. This is her second year at Bridges Academy!
Ms. Erin graduated from college with a Business Management Degree. After a few years in the business world, she decided to alter her career path. She decided to follow her passion and work with children. She went back to school for her Master of Arts in Teaching. As the program was nearing its end, she happened upon Bridges Montessori Academy. She fell in love with the Montessori method and subsequently went through that training at MECA. Since that time, Ms. Erin has been teaching using both traditional
and Montessori methods, and loving the work!
"My philosophy of education can best be summed up by this quote by W.B. Yeats - 'Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.' It is my goal, as a teacher, to help all of my students light the fire." - Ms. Erin
Ms. Kristiana, our art teacher, has been at Bridges for a few years. She is currently working towards an M.S. in Art Education at Northern Illinois University. The Montessori method is something that has been a part of her life since attending Bridges Montessori when it first opened.
"The integration of art into other subjects is something I feel strongly about. I believe that if learning is done in a cross-curricular, hands on manor then what we learn will be rich and meaningful. Learning by doing in a collaborative environment creates inviting new ideas into the art room." - Ms. Kristiana
