The 20th-century American novelist Ralph Ellison once said,”Education is all a matter of building bridges”. At Bridges Academy, this sentiment is the philosophical core of our school. A bridge represents transition, connection, movement, overcoming, and growth, and as such it has always been our school symbol. The Bridge. Education is so much more than “rigorous academics”. It’s about teaching our kids to make connections, engaging their minds, sparking their creativity, building their sense of community, while also leaving room for curiosity, wonder, and individuality.
We believe that every student is a unique individual with a unique set of skills, talents, and strengths, as well as unique challenges. Our individualized learning plans allow us to build an effective bridge of knowledge and learning by accommodating each child and providing the tools necessary for success.
Preparing our students to make successful transitions, whether it is from one grade to the next or one subject to the next, by understanding where they are beginning and understanding where they are headed is a major component to our teaching foundations.
We believe developing the whole child is critical for ultimate success in the future. Therefore, we make building strong bonds among our students a priority. Communication, conflict resolution, compassion, empathy and inclusivity are core tenets of our school community.
We believe our students should have a strong connection to our community. We provide opportunities for community service to raise awareness that our actions can make a big impact on the world and people around us.
Our school provides small class sizes, individualized learning plans, multi-age classrooms, project-based learning, in a nurturing environment based on respect, empathy, compassion, responsibility, and inclusivity.
